To some, watching the Thursday morning news show at Duncan Creek Elementary School was business as usual with the show providing the pledge of allegiance, upcoming events and announcements and a message from the principal.

But for physical education teacher Dayna Alkire it was a chance to honor a parent of the fallen student.
