The Watson Family Foundation is proud to offer two one-time $2,500 scholarships to the Automotive Excellence Scholarship to support aspiring automotive professionals who have demonstrated dedication, skill, and passion for the automotive industry. This scholarship is designed to assist students who have successfully completed the Maxwell High School of Technology (Lawrenceville, GA) General Automotive Program and are pursuing post-secondary education in a college, university, or technical school within the field of automotive studies.
Purpose:
o Encourage Post-Secondary Education: Support students in pursuing further education in automotive studies at colleges, universities, or technical schools.
o Foster Workforce Readiness: Help students transition successfully into the workforce by emphasizing skill development and industry preparedness.
o Promote Excellence in the Automotive Industry: Reward academic and technical achievements, such as earning Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
o Empower Future Leaders: Invest in students who are passionate about advancing their knowledge and careers in the automotive field.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify, applicants must:
o Successfully complete the Maxwell General Automotive Program.
o Achieve at least four entry-level Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
o Graduate with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit the following materials to their Maxwell Automotive teacher:
o Resume showcasing relevant achievements and experiences.
o A 500-word essay detailing:
1. Their interest in the field of automotive studies.
2. How their Maxwell High School experience has shaped their life and academic journey.
3. Their preparedness to enter the workforce in the automotive industry.
4. How receiving this scholarship would impact their educational and career goals.
o Attend the April Automotive Advisory Committee Meeting to introduce themselves to the board, share insights about their scholarship application, demonstrate knowledge of the Watson Family Foundation, its founders, and its initiatives.
Selection Process:
o The student and nominating teacher will complete the scholarship application materials and scholarship checklist. The packet will be submitted by the teacher to the selection committee made up of the automotive assistant principal, counselor, and member of the automotive advisory committee. The selection committee will review application materials and using the rubric and feedback from the advisory meeting presentations to determine the winners. Winners will be announced at the Maxwell Awards ceremony.
Scholarship funds can only be used for the following:
1. Automotive Technical school
2. Post-secondary classes in the field of automotive studies
3. College classes
4. Up to $500 may be used to pay for professional ASE certification tests
5. Up to $250 may be used (after enrollment and completion of post-secondary classes) to purchase automotive tool sets.
