Student Scholarships

Dr. Tarece Johnson Scholarship for the Arts
The Dr. Tarece Johnson Scholarship for the Arts is a one-time award of $1000 presented to a college-bound GCPS senior from District 5. One or more recipients may be named. Emphasis will be placed on participation in the arts (painting, graphic design, illustration, sculpture, literature, film, music, dance, theater, and/or fashion) and volunteer work demonstrating a commitment to making a difference in the community. This scholarship is open to District 5 students only. “If preferred, instead of writing an essay, applicants have the option to answer the questions in a 3 - 5 min. video format and demonstrate their art via video or photo images.” Deadline: March 31

Documents to include with application:

  • Applicant must be on track to graduate (no GPA/SAT/ACT requirement) include a copy of 1st semester transcrip

  • Financial need

  • Must major in the arts: painting, graphic design, illustration, sculpture, literature, film, music, dance, theater, and/or fashion.

  • Submit a two-page, double-spaced, typed essay describing how art has improved your life and what you want to do with your art in the future or answer the questions in a 3 - 5 min. video format and demonstrate their art via video or photo images.

  • Provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member

  • Have plans to enroll in an accredited college or university for fall 2022
