The best school nurse in the state is caring for students in Gwinnett County Public Schools, according to the Georgia Association of School Nurses.

The state-wide group recently named GCPS nurse Fran Overdyke School Nurse of the Year for 2017.

“It really is an honor,” Overdyke said.

As a school nurse, Overdyke is tasked with putting together emergency or treatment plans for students with special health needs and teaching the schools they attend how to properly carry those plans out.
