McClain Hermes is not your average Gwinnett County high school student.

In addition to being a world-class swimmer, the 18-year-old senior is considered legally blind. The high school in her neighborhood — Mill Creek — isn’t equipped to respond to her unique situation, and her only alternative seemed to a 90-minute bus ride each morning to Parkview, which has a full-time vision teacher working with visually impaired students.
