Central Gwinnett, Meadowcreek and South Gwinnett STEM Academy high school students recently participated in the first UPS STEM Day at the UPS Supply Chain Solutions office in Alpharetta.The experience provided students with a glimpse into the various STEM careers available at UPS, allowed them to network with STEM professionals and gave insight into the skills necessary to excel in STEM-related industries.

As a child, Aayush Setty wasn’t a fan of fairy tales or comics. Instead, his father, Guru, would bring him books about the cardiovascular system and the brain.

“He read those to me and very quickly I thought the brain was fascinating because of all the activity that goes on with it,” Aayush Setty said. “Because of that, I decided I wanted to become a neurosurgeon and I’ve stuck with that.”

Students at Shiloh High School in need of food and clothing will be covered after the Snellville school unveiled its Community Assistance and Resource Effort Closet on Thursday afternoon.

A CARE Closet is a “confidential food pantry” stocked with nonperishable food for high school students who are in need.

Norcross High School’s Gina Parrish was honored in front of a packed room during the Gwinnett County Public Schools Board of Education meeting Thursday evening.

Parrish was recently inducted into The Educational Theatre Association Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions to theater education for 20 or more years.

Tuesday night during the first intermission of the Atlanta Gladiators game at Infinite Energy Arena, GCPS Foundation Executive Director Kelly Herndon and Atlanta Gladiator representative Matt Ritzer presented Gwinnett seniors Camryn Petit from Mill Creek High School and Aliana Stehr from Mountain View High School each a $1,000 Atlanta Gladiators Aim High college scholarship for students interested in sports medicine, sports management, entertainment or similarly related career.

The scholarship is offered each year through a partnership between the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation and the Atlanta Gladiators and funded by teachers, students and community members taking advantage of special Gladiator discount nights for education. Berkmar High School will be the host site for the 2018 Gwinnett County Reader’s Rally on Saturday.

According to Gwinnett County Public Schools, about 100 schools across the school district will participate in the reading competition. Opening ceremonies for elementary schools will begin at 9 a.m., middle schools start at 9:45 a.m. and high schools will start at 10 a.m.
