The Mountain View High School baseball booster club is building a reputation for attracting distinguished guest speakers for its annual “A Night in the Big Leagues” event Sunday night at 550 Trackside.

Last year’s inaugural event featured Kansas City Royals general manager and former Atlanta Braves executive Dayton Moore and world champion Houston Astro and Providence Christian standout Collin McHugh. The sequel featured a handful of former professional athletes, each conveying their own message of perseverance and wisdom to the crowd of more than 200 Mountain View players, coaches and parents.

Five students from Gwinnett’s Osborne Middle School attended the Super Regional FIRST Lego League Competition held at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robin’s from Jan. 19 through 21.

In the FLL, elementary and middle school kids research real-world engineering problems and design, build, and compete with Lego-based robots.

A local 9-year-old is taking matters into his own hands to make sure there's recess for all, after he realized his friends with disabilities couldn't get on to the playground at school.

Zeph Everson noticed some of his friends sitting on the sidelines at recess one day. The 4th grader at Arcado Elementary said he was heartbroken about it, so now he's taken action and raising money to fix it.

Gwinnett’s Bicentennial Torch Run officials got underway Wednesday with runners carrying the torch from the home of county government to the home of its oldest city’s government.

Central Gwinnett High School runners carried the torch on a 1.8-mile trip from the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center and around downtown Lawrenceville. Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson joined them on the final stretch, with the city’s top elected official carrying it from the Lawrenceville Female Seminary to Lawrenceville City Hall.

Governor Nathan Deal announced Gwinnett County Public Schools’ “Getting Ready to Read” project was awarded a $20,000 grant as part of the Early Language and Literacy Mini-Grant Program.

The Early Language and Literacy Mini-Grant Program is a collaborative effort between the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement and the Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy at Georgia College. The program targets children from birth to the age of eight in trying to develop literacy and language.
