The American women’s domination of Monday’s 122nd Boston Marathon had people hurriedly searching for information on the top finishers, then reporting the results on social media.

For a time, a few on Twitter reported that Nicole DiMercurio was Canadian. Before it was corrected, another post followed with what a great day it was for Canadian running.

It may have been, but it was even better for the American women. And for Gwinnett County running.

Maxwell High School of Technology Principal Jeff Hall was announced as the 2018 Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia Administrator of the Year, according to a press release Friday.

The award commemorates exceptional individuals who have contributed to the success of Career and Technical Education, through the quality of their work and their involvement in the CTE community, the release said.

Dacula resident Harriet H. Coffee, celebrated her 102nd birthday with family members at her home March 18. Family members said she is a retired elementary school teacher who taught the second grade at Lawrenceville Elementary School for 15 years. Her family said that when Coffee was asked what the key was to living for more than a century, she told them it was “a strong faith in God and a good sense of humor.”

“There’s a 15-year-old, non-responsive male. What do you do?” Gwinnett County Police officer Lauren Jones asked a group of South Gwinnett High School students during a disaster simulation Tuesday morning.

This was one of the many questions thrown at students during the school’s inaugural safety event that not only put them in real-life situations, but challenged them to apply what they learned in the classroom.
