Principals and administrators from Gwinnett County Public Schools channeled their inner child with a field trip to local businesses around Gwinnett on Thursday.

“At core of what we’re trying to do is fulfill our vision of having students be prepared for their future,” GCPS Associate Superintendent Jonathan Patterson said. “It’s important for us at this time in the year to continue to learn ourselves and see what is out there in the industry.”

Students from Cooper Elementary School’s Destination Imagination team capped off the elementary school year with a top 10 national finish out of more than 1,400 teams at the Global Finals held at the University of Tennessee from May 23 to 26.

The team made up of fifth-grade students Aubrey Meadows, Phillip Robinson, Ruthie Hendrix, Riley Kashella, Emma Masterson, Lilly Santos and Alexander Marshall finished qualified for the Global Finals after entering their service-based learning project and winning at both the regional and state level.

Years of hard work in the classroom paid off when a pair of Gwinnett County graduates were among the 10 valedictorians honored upon graduation from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.

Hannah Coursey, an accounting major who graduated from Lanier High School, and Kasey Bell, a public health major who graduated from Mountain View High School, were cited for their ability to maintain a 4.0 grade-point average throughout their four years of undergraduate coursework

Gwinnett County Public Schools’ two mobile libraries —the “Explore” Book Mobile and the “Pow” Book Mobile — are hitting the streets to provide books for children beginning Monday.

During the course of the summer, the mobile libraries are scheduled for a 35-stop route in the Meadowcreek and Norcross clusters each week to provide to provide students who may not have easy access to the public library the opportunity to check out books.
