The scores are in and Gwinnett County Public Schools exceeded the state and national average on the ACT assessment during the 2017-18 academic year, according to a report released on Wednesday.

GCPS students, on average, received a composite score of 22.6, outscoring the state average of 21.6 and national average of 20.8.

Collins Hill senior Johaer Jilani was recently named the sole Georgia recipient of Questbridge’s Quest for Excellence USA Award.

Jilani was one of 3,000 students to be chosen in the selection process leading up to the award, which selects one student from each state, based on a criteria that includes essays, test scores and teacher recommendations.

Gwinnett County Public Schools announced its six finalists for the district teacher of the year Thursday.

The finalists for the 2018-19 honor are Juah Nyemadé Baker-Marsh of Lovin Elementary School, Kelly Specht of Riverside Elementary School, Chandra Brandel of Coleman Middle School, Lindsey Saa of Couch Middle School, Heidi Campbell of Parkview High School and Meredith White of Peachtree Ridge High School.

Four Gwinnett County Public Schools counselors and two administrators earned state recognition from the Georgia School Counselor Association, according to Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Five Forks Middle School counselor Laura Ross earned the organization’s top honor as GSCA School Counselor of the Year.
